We always welcome new members. No auditions, no waiting lists! Whatever your instrument, there's always room for one more in the ACWE family.
What to expect at your first rehearsal
Just bring your horn and show up at 7:30 PM. A band member will greet you and introduce you to your section leader. You'll also meet our band representative, who will collect your contact info and get you connected to our mailing list and music distribution. That's it. You're in.
We rehearse Tuesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 PM at Covenant United Methodist Church, 4410 Duval Road, Austin, Texas 78727.
Return to playing
Haven't played since high school? Since college? Longer? You're in good company. Many of our members have returned to playing after years, or even decades, away from their instruments. ACWE is one of the best reasons we know of to dust off your horn and rediscover why you loved it in the first place.
A few practical things
Instruments — Bring your own instrument and any mutes or accessories you normally use. We maintain percussion instruments but not others. If you need an instrument, it's worth asking; members have been known to loan one out.
Mid-season joining — New members are welcome at any point in the season. We just ask that you attend at least two rehearsals before performing in a concert, so you and the ensemble have a chance to get comfortable together.
Membership fee — There is a modest membership fee, after a trial period, and waivers are available. Cost is never a barrier. See our membership policies and fees for details.
High school students
Our membership is generally open to musicians beyond high school age. We've found that the Tuesday evening commitment, rehearsals plus concerts, is genuinely hard to sustain alongside a high school schedule, and we don't want to set anyone up to struggle. If you're a high school musician and still interested, reach out and let's talk. We want to hear from a parent or guardian as well.
